









Britain went to the polls on May 6th, but prior to the UK General Election, the BNCC was proud to host special debate to discuss the forthcoming election and the future of British Politics, held at the PricewaterhouseCoopers headquarters in Oslo. The live debate followed the BBC’s Flagship ‘Question Time’ format with David Dimbleby. The selected panel brought together their professional insight, thinking and analysis to evaluate the General Election whilst answering pre-proposed questions from the audience.
Chair: Chris Prebensen; until recently General Secretary of the Norwegian Atlantic Committee.
Panellist: Nikolai Astrup; party spokesman on energy and environment of the Norwegian Parliament for the Conservatives (Høyre).
Panellist: Øivind Bratberg; leading academic at the University of Oslo on British Politics and President of the British Politics Society in Norway.
Panellist: Andrew Ward; Nordic Bureau Chief for the Financial Times.
- Throughout arrival & registration, members socialised with snacks and refreshments served.
- Following a welcome and introduction from BNCC Board Member, Richard Stott, the Panel introduced themselves and their thoughts on the UK General Election, before addressing the questions posed beforehand by the audience.
Topics/questions discussed included those related to:
- Economic policy, business, finance and trade.
- Modernisation of the Parliament system.
- Social policy.
- International relations.
- Energy, the environment and climate change.
- The panel closed with a final word on the General Election, before being presented with a token of appreciation for their participation on behalf of the BNCC Board and Members.
- Social networking time followed, with members taking the opportunity to enjoy the rest of the evening and share their own thoughts on the impending election!
